ECU Men's Tennis Tandem Receives Regional Ranking
12/17/2002 GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina University's men's tennis doubles team of senior Brad Sullivan and junior Charl Meyer is ranked No. 10 in the region, according to rankings published this week by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). It is the first time ever that ECU has been represented in the rankings.
Sullivan and Meyer, who have posted a 9-1 record as the Pirates' flight one doubles team this fall, are listed in the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Fall Regional Rankings, administered by the ITA. They have won 16 of their last 17 matches, dating back to last season. Their only loss this season was an 8-6 setback to William & Mary's top doubles pair, which is currently ranked No. 8 in the region. "This ranking is the result of a lot of hard work by Charl and Brad," Head Coach Tom Morris said. "They have come together and made the transition to a very solid number one doubles team. They are capable of winning everytime they take the court." The Pirates competed in four invitationals in the fall and begin dual match play on Jan. 18 at William & Mary. The first home competition for ECU is scheduled for Jan. 24-26 when the Pirates host the Power of One tournament.
