Men's Track in Third Place After Day One at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.. -- The East Carolina's men's and women's' track teams completed day one of the Sykes/Sabock Challenge Cup held by Penn State today.

The Pirate men are in third place among 11 teams after the first day of the Challenge. Julien Dunkley set a new ECU record in the 60 meters with a time of 6.63. This is also a new meet and Ashenfelter Track record.

Jeremy Carter earned fourth place in the 60-meter dash (6.80) and in the 60-meter hurdles (8.05).

The distance medley team of Kristian Jorgensen, Michael Hillian, Ricardo Bell and Kyle MacKenzie placed fifth (9:58.46).

"We had a very good first day," said Head Coach Bill Carson. "There were a lot of good teams and to be sitting among them is a good feat."

On the women's side Shirena James placed sixth in the 60-meter dash (7.67). Kelli Litten earned sixth in the 5000 meter (17:41.30).

In the pole vault Tammie Mentzel placed ninth (10-11.75) and Nicole Marchewka placed 15th (10-6.00)

The Pirates finish the Skyes/Sabock Challenge tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m.
