Tara DeBrielle Claims Fourth Place in 800-meters At Raleigh Relays
03/28/2004 Raleigh, N.C. -- Senior Tara DeBrielle posted a time of 2:10.61 in the 800-meter to claim a fourth place finish at the Raleigh Relays on Saturday at the Paul Derr Track on the campus of N.C. State. DeBrielle's time was the second fastest in ECU history, 10 one hundredths of a second behind her personal and school best of 2:10.51, which she set on March 7 at the ECAC Indoor Championships. The Pirates put on a strong showing during the two-day event, posting six top 20 finishes. For the second consecutive weekend and the third time this season, senior Colleen McGinn tied her own ECU record in the high jump with a mark of 5' 8" (1.73m). The 5' 8" mark has qualified McGinn for the NCAA Regionals. In the men's 5000-meter event, junior Kyle McKenzie recorded a fourth place finish with a time of 15:17.90. Fellow Pirates Craig Schmidt (15:44.37) and Stephen Tausend (16:02.01) finished 20th and 36th respectively. The Lady Pirates placed three pole vaulters in the top 11 of their flight, with Kinsey Batts and Tammie Mentzel both posting jumps of 11-03.75, while freshman Lindsey Rosales finished tied for 11. In the finals, both Batts and Mentzel claimed a share for 16th place. ECU will travel to Conway, S.C. on Sunday to participate in the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
