McGinn and DeBrielle Take Home Titles At C-USA Track Championships
05/15/2004 LOUISVILLE, KY-- Seniors Colleen McGinn (Jacksonville, N.C.) and Tara DeBrielle (Pine Hill, N.J.) each took home individual titles at the 2004 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Cardinal Park Stadium. McGinn defended her 2002 high jump title as the only competitor in the field to clear the 5-8 (1.73m) mark. Last year McGinn received a redshirt as she sat out the season while completing student teaching requirements for her academic degree. DeBrielle took home her first C-USA championship in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:12.84, almost a full second ahead of UAB's Genoah Collins. Both McGinn and DeBrielle earned all conference honors for their performances. Johanna Allen finished fifth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 17:26.12. In the 400 meter hurdles, Nicole Callaham finished eighth (1:04.85), while Emily Thompson finished 19th in the shot put (39-03.00). Tammie Mentzel and Lindsey Rosales tied for third place in the pole vault after posting a jump of 11-09.75 (3.60m), on their way to being all conference selections. Also in the pole vault, Nicole Marchewka finished sixth, while Kinsey Batts shared eighth place. The Houston Cougars took home the 2004 C-USA team title with 121 total points. TCU was one point behind at 120 followed by USF with 103.33 points. ECU finished in seventh place with 48.33 points. "This was a terrific championship for us," said head coach Matt Munson. "I was extremely excited about our finish today. We reshirted a lot of our team this season and with the return of almost everyone next year, including Tara DeBrielle, who will be in graduate school next year, our future looks good."
