Eight Pirates Advance To Final Heats At C-USA Championships
05/15/2004 LOUISVILLE, KY -- The second day of the 2004 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship eight Pirates found themselves moving in the final heats on Saturday, with a chance to bring home some hardware. The evening portion of Friday's action at Louisville's Cardinal Park was contested under inclement weather, including 51-minute delay due to heavy rains. After two days of competition, Cincinnati is the men's team leader with 34 points, while USF holds the lead in the women's team standings with 38 points. On the women's side, senior Tara DeBrielle recorded the second fastest time (2:14.45) on Friday and qualified for the finals, which will be held on Saturday. In the 400-meter hurdles, Nicole Callaham secured the last finals spot with a time of 1:04.87. Sophomore Chelsea Salisbury, placed sixth in the javelin throw with a mark of 123-06.50 (37.66m) and earned three points towards the team competition. Junior sprinter Damarcus Fox posted a time of 10:62 in the 100 meter dash, the seventh fastest time of the day, to move onto the finals. In the 400 meter preliminaries, B.J. Henderson (47.36) and Darrus Coefield (47.84) both advanced. Other action saw Ricardo Bell (800 meter), Hector Cotto (110 meter hurdles), and Ronnie Pollard (400 meter hurdles) all advance to championship Saturday. Championship action begins a 10 am with the men's high jump.
