Two Pirates Qualify For 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track National Championships
05/28/2005 RANDALL'S ISLAND, N.Y. -- Junior Hector Cotto and senior B.J. Henderson will represent East Carolina at the NCAA Division I Men's Outdoor Track National Championships after both turned in fourth-place finishes during the finals of the East Regional Track and Field Championships at Icahn Stadium Saturday. Henderson posted a personal-record time of 20.64 in the 200 meters while Cotto recorded a mark of 13.84 in the 110-meter hurdles. The pair qualified as one of the top five finishers in both events and earned an invitation to the NCAA National Championship Meet in Sacramento, Calif., June 8-11. In other action Saturday, sophomore hammer throwers Terrance Myers and Eric Frasure fell short in their bid for a berth in the nationals with 14th and 22nd-place standings, respectively. Myers logged a toss of 54.08 meters while Frasure added an effort of 52.08. The Lady Pirates' 4x400 relay squad, consisting of Portia Baker, Tara DeBrielle, Simone Baptiste and Terri Davenport, also did not qualify after a 16th-place finish (3:47.37). ECU's only women's field event participant Saturday, Chelsea Salisbury, did not score in the javelin throw.
