Cross Country Teams Finish Second At Raleigh Invitational
09/19/2004 GREENVILLE, N.C. –– The East Carolina men and women's cross country teams each finished second at the Raleigh Invitational on Saturday. The Pirates finished behind NC State in both events held at the SAS Complex in Cary. ECU placed a trio of runners among the top 10 on the men's side and a pair of runners on the women's side. Matt Hanlon was ECU's top finisher, coming home in sixth place followed by Kyle MacKenzie in ninth and Craig Schmidt in 10th position. Hanlon completed the 6,400 meter course in a time of 20:52, 13 seconds ahead of MacKenzie and 29 seconds in front of Schmidt. Jessica Collins claimed a third place finish in the women's race, completing the 5,000 meter course in a time of 18:42, one second shy of second place. Senior Johanna Allen also grabbed a top 10 finish as she completed the race in a time of 18:53. The ECU cross country team will return to action on Friday, Oct. 1 at the Great American Championships. The event will be held at the SAS Complex in Cary.
