MacKenzie Places Second At State Championships

    GREENVILLE, N.C. --- East Carolina junior Kyle MacKenzie finished second with a time of 23:53.18 at the 2003 N C. Intercollegiate Division I Men's Cross Country Championships at Overton's Lake Kristi on Saturday. MacKenize's finish helped the Pirates to a fifth place finish.

    Sophomore Caitlin Littlefield paced the women's squad by completing the course in a time of 17:35.79 to place seventh on the ladies side. ECU had three runners place in the top 20 on its way a fourth place team finish. Sophomore Jessica Collins placed 16th, while senior Johannna Allen finished in 19th position.

    ECU junior Matt Hanlon also recorded a top 20 finish during the men's race, placing 11th with a time of 24:26.79.

    Charlotte took home the women's team title, while North Carolina won the men's team championship. Jessica Perry of UNC and Jeff Fairman of High Point each claimed individual first place finishes.

    ECU's next meet will be Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Conference USA Cross Country Championships in Tampa, Fla.
