RALEIGH, N.C. - North Carolina State's Ashley Key and Shayla Fields combined for 34 points to lead the Wolfpack to a 64-38 win over East Carolina Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Coliseum. With the win, State improves to 8-2 on the year, while the Lady Pirates fall to 4-6.

The Lady Pirates got on the board first, as LaCoya Terry sank at five foot jumper at the 19:11 mark, giving ECU the early 2-0 lead. Fields' three point jumper with 17:18 remaining in the half gave the Wolfpack the 7-6 lead, and sparked a 6-2 NCSU run, with all of the Pack's points coming from Fields. Nicole Days' steal and layup at the 12:45 mark ended a three minute ECU scoring drought, and cut State's lead to three at 11-8. Terry's off balance jumper from the free throw line at the 10:35 mark pulled the Lady Pirates within two, 13-11. After holding the Pack without a field goal for nearly eight minutes, a Gillian Goring put back with 8:51 in the half ended the drought, and put NCSU up 15-11. The Pack extended its lead to six, 17-11, on a Sharnise Beal jumper with 7:40 on the clock. Jasmine Young's three-pointer from the top of the key at the 7:23 mark cut the lead to three, 17-14. The Wolfpack went on a 14-9 run to end the half, taking a 12 point, 33-21 lead into the break.

Ashley Key led all scorers with 12 points at the break while Fields added 10. For the Lady Pirates, Terry had a team-high eight points. Both teams combined for 30 turnovers in the opening half, with ECU scoring seven points off the Pack miscues. The Lady Pirates shot just 33.3 percent from the field while NCSU shot 44.4.

 

 

ECU started the second half much like the first, scoring the first basket of the period on a Terry jumper, 33-23, with just under 19 minutes to play in the game. N.C. State scored its first points of the half at the 16:37 mark, on another Fields jumper, putting the Pack up by 11, 34-23. NCSU went on a 9-0 run, sparked by a Keisha Brown trey with 15:20 on the clock, extending their lead to 17, 44-27, with just under 12 minutes remaining in the game. Shana Franks' layup with 9:34 on the clock ended the Pack run. Back to back baskets by Gabriela Husarova and Terry cut the Wolfpack lead to 15, 48-33, with 7:53 to play. The Pack put together another run, this time an 8-3 rally, going up 58-36 with 3:41 to play in the game. A pair of Lauren Cochran free throws at the 3:34 mark were the final points for the Lady Pirates, as State cruised to the 64-38 victory.

Terry tallied a team-high 12 points in the loss, and dished out two assists. The Lady Pirates shot just 28.6 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from the charity stripe. N.C. State fired 42.6 percent from the field and a lights-out 91.7 percent from the free throw line. The Pack held the Lady Pirates to their lowest point total of the season, with 38, and the fewest points in the second half, with just 17.

The Lady Pirates will take a week off for exams before heading to Cancun, Mexico for the Caribbean Classic Dec. 17-21. East Carolina will face No. 24 Pittsburgh on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 3:00 p.m. and will face Detroit on Dec. 20 at 8:30 p.m.
