    BIRMINGHAM, AL. -- The East Carolina women's basketball team dropped its fifth game in Conference USA action Monday night as they fell to UAB 75-70 at Bartow Arena.

    The Pirates (8-15, 4-5) got to within three points, 73-70, with 10 seconds left on the clock, but the Blazers (6-17, 3-8) were able to connect on two free throws to seal the Pirates fate.

    Viola Cooper drained her first three-pointer of the game at the 7:17 mark to spark an ECU 13-7 run heading into the half giving the Pirates a 29-28 lead.

    Shanita Sutton led three Pirates in double-figures with 16 points, 14 coming in the second half, while fellow Pirates Jennifer Jackson and Cooper each added 11. Jackson moved into fifth place on ECU's all-time scoring list (1,375) passing fellow Pirate Courtney Willis when she connected on the first of two free throws with 19 seconds left in the game.

    For UAB, Carmen Guzman collected a game-high 22 points to lead four Blazer's in double-digits. Katie Billue and Lauren Brittingham each netted 11, while Crystal McFadden added 10.

    Junior LaToya Horton grabbed 14 of the Pirates 39 rebounds, which was her season and conference-high.

    The Pirates will be back on the court Friday night, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. when they host Cincinnati at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.

  • Viola Cooper started her 50th consecutive game for the Pirates while scoring 11 points, including two 3-pointers for her 23rd career double-figure game. She now has 75 career three-pointers.
  • Jennifer Jackson played in her 103rd career game for the Pirates with her 70th career start. She moved into fifth place all-time on ECU's scoring list (1,375) after hitting a pair of free throws with 19 seconds left on clock. Jackson connected on two 3-pointers and now has 147 for her career. She also recorded her 64th career double-digit game of the season.
  • Shanita Sutton played in her 100th career game for the Pirates with 61 career starts. On the night she posted her 14th double-digit game of the season with a team-high 16 points. She also finished with four rebounds.
  • LaToya Horton grabbed a season-best 14 points, 12 on the defensive end.
  • The Pirates shot 52.2 percent (12-23) from the floor in the first half, the second straight game that ECU has shot better than 50 percent from the floor in the opening half. They finished the game shooting 44.2 percent (23-52) from the game, the second straight game they reached 44 percent or better from the floor.
  • Ebonee Downey finished with nine points connecting on 4-of-7 shooting.
