    HOUSTON, TEXAS -- The East Carolina women's basketball team dropped its sixth game in Conference USA play Friday night as they fell to Houston 74-52 in Hofheinz Pavilion.

    The Pirates (10-15, 6-6) fell behind at the half, 37-27, and never recovered as Houston (18-7, 8-4) went on a 14-3 run to close out the half. The Cougars would extend its lead to 18, 47-29, early in the second half when Joann Overstreet and Crystal Simpson connected on back-to-back three-pointers.

    Jennifer Jackson, who lead all Pirates in scoring with 17, and Amanda Mills helped ECU close the gap to 12 (51-39) with 13 minutes remaining in the game. But another run of 14-4, which included two three's by Jasmin Moore put the game out of reach.

    Along with Jackson's 17, senior Shanita Sutton added 12 for her 16th double-figure game of the season while grabbing seven boards, two shy of Jackson's team-high on the night. Viola Cooper contributed with seven points and five assists and Ebonee Downey added five points and three rebounds.

    Sancho Lyttle paced three Cougars in double-digits with 12 points and 16 rebounds. Joann Overstreet scored 13 and Shannon Steele added 10.

    East Carolina will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to Dallas-Fort Worth to take on TCU at 3 p.m. inside Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

  • Viola Cooper started her 53rd consecutive game for the Pirates while scoring seven points. She connected on two 3-pointers in the game and now has 78 for her career.
  • Jennifer Jackson played in her 106th career game for the Pirates with her 73rd career start. With her 10 first half points, she recorded her 68th career double-figure game and finished with a team-best 17. In the first half, Jackson connected on a pair of 3-pointers and tied Tali Robich for second place all-time on ECU's three-point field goals made list with 155.
  • Shanita Sutton played in her 103rd career game for the Pirates with 64 career starts. She recorded her 16th double-digit game of the season with 12 points and set a career-high in steals (5). Sutton also recorded one block on the night which was her 22nd of the season and 63 of her career. She is now tied with Alma Bethea for seventh-place on ECU's all-time shots blocked charts.
