Women's Hoops Earns No. 2 Seed in C-USA Tournament

2013 C-USA Tournament Bracket GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's basketball team claimed the No. 2 seed, its highest-ever seed, in the Conference USA Tournament. The Lady Pirates earned a first-round bye and will take on the winner of the No. 7 seed Memphis-No. 10 seed Southern Miss game. ECU will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. (CT) on Thursday, March 14, at the Tulsa Convention Center the league office announced Saturday night. The Pirates will enter the tournament with a 21-8 overall record and are 11-5 in conference action. ECU has won five of its last seven games and will look to win three in a row to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. No. 1 seed SMU (21-8, 12-4 C-USA), No. 3 seed Tulane (22-7, 11-6 C-USA) and No. 4 seed UAB (18-11, 9-7 C-USA) also earned first-round byes at next week's four-day, 11-game tournament. The tournament opens with No. 8 UCF (13-17, 7-9 C-USA) against No. 9 Houston (13-16, 7-9 C-USA) at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, followed by No. 5 UTEP (20-9, 8-8 C-USA) versus No. 12 Marshall (9-20, 3-13 C-USA) at 1:30 p.m. The 5:30 p.m. contest features host and No. 6 Tulsa (13-16, 8-8 C-USA) against No. 11 Rice (14-15, 6-10). The nightcap pits No. 7 Memphis (17-13, 8-8 C-USA) against No. 10 Southern Miss (4-15, 6-10 C-USA) at 7:30 p.m. The first round and quarterfinal games will be played at the Tulsa Convention Center and will be available for viewing exclusively on the C-USA Digital Network.
