ATLANTA, Ga. - Future East Carolina women's basketball player I'Tiana Taylor is one of three finalists for the 2014 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Junior/Community College Player of the Year award. Taylor, a sophomore forward at Weatherford College (Texas), signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to attend and play basketball at East Carolina last November. She will hit the hardwood at ECU in the fall of 2014.

The WBCA presents the player of the year award annually to the top player in each of the five WBCA membership divisions (NCAA Divisions II, III, NAIA, junior/community college and high school). The winner will be announced during the fourth annual WBCA Awards Show on Monday, April 7, in the Omni Nashville Hotel's Broadway Ballroom. The event is part of the WBCA National Convention and is held in conjunction with the NCAA Women's Final Four in Nashville.

In addition to being a finalist for the WBCA Junior/Community College Player of the Year award, Taylor was also selected to the 2014 WBCA Junior/Community College Coaches' All-America Team.

"I'Tiana is one of the best players in the country," East Carolina Head Coach Heather Macy said. "She has a unique combination of athleticism, toughness and character. She's a great teammate with a real gift for scoring the basketball."

As a sophomore at Weatherford, Taylor led the Lady Coyotes to a 21-4 overall record and a 13-1 league mark as they repeated as the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Champions. The Pflugerville, Texas native earned her second consecutive First Team All-Conference selection after averaging 21.7 points per game to lead the conference. She also led the league in rebounding as she averaged 13.1 per contest. Additionally, Taylor contributed 19 double-doubles on the year which was 10 more than anyone else in the league.

Taylor is a Player of the Year finalist along with Adut Bulgak of Trinity Valley Community College and Capree Garner of Harford Community College. Both Bulgak and Garner were named to the 2014 WBCA Junior/Community College Coaches' All-America Team.
