GREENVILLE, N.C. – Jada Payne and Abria Trice were named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) All-State Women’s Basketball First and Second Team, respectively, it was announced on Wednesday. The all-state first and second teams feature 10 players representing seven different North Carolina universities.
Payne, a redshirt sophomore forward, collected the honors after leading East Carolina to a 22-9 overall record and its first-ever back-to-back postseason appearances as the Pirates earned a spot in the WNIT. She finished the year as the team’s leading scorer (18.4 points per game) and rebounder (7.5 rebounds per game), while adding 55 assists, 46 steals and six blocks en route to being named to the Conference USA First Team. Additionally, Payne was awarded the Outstanding Player of the Year award at the annual ECU women’s basketball end of the year awards reception.
In addition to her success of the court, Payne was also named to the ECU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for student-athletes who have earned a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Trice is a redshirt junior guard who earned second team accolades after averaging 15.2 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game. She was also named to the C-USA All Second Team after adding a team-leading 51 steals to go along with 39 assists and 19 blocks. Trice was honored at the ECU women’s basketball end of the year awards reception with the Most Valuable Pirate Award for her efforts on the court.
