GREENVILLE, N.C.Dalila Eshe has been named assistant women’s basketball coach at East Carolina University according to an announcement by head coach Heather Macy on Friday.

Eshe joins the Pirates after serving as director of basketball operations at Loyola (Md.) University last season.

“As we are preparing for the future, Dalila stood out as someone with whom we wanted to continue to build the program,” Macy said. “She has the ability to relate and communicate with players to help them compete at this level. Her discipline and work ethic stand out and will be valuable assets to our team.”

Among Eshe’s many accomplishments, she was chosen as captain of the USA Women's Select team at the 2013 Williams Jones Cup in Taipei, Taiwan.

“I’m incredibly excited to be here and be a part of the Pirate family,” Eshe said. “I think it’s an amazing opportunity to learn and grow under a strong female role model. Obviously this is a very talented team and established program and I’m looking forward to the upcoming season. As soon as I stepped on campus, I could feel the positive energy. I think we are going to do some special things as we go into our first season in the American Athletic Conference.”

The Tallahassee, Fla., native was a second round pick by the Seattle Storm in the 2006 Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) draft before spending time in camp with the Washington Mystics in 2007 and the Atlanta Dream in 2008.

“The biggest thing I can harp on was how intense the training camps were,” Eshe said. “I think they helped me become tougher mentally.”

Eshe continued her professional career overseas where she played eight total seasons, beginning in Turkey’s top international league where she was a top-10 rebounder and scorer from 2006-09. She also competed in the Euro Cup for the No. 1 team in Romania in 2008. In 2009-10, Eshe played in Russia before continuing on to leagues in the Czech Republic (2011), Portugal (2012), Germany (2012) and Ecuador (2013).

Eshe also coached the junior professional teams comprised of players aged 17-21 in the Czech Republic, Russia and Turkey.

A 2006 graduate of the University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in psychology, Eshe averaged 14.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game during her senior campaign, en route to earning All-Southeastern Conference First Team honors. She led the Gators to 21 wins and an NCAA Tournament appearance during her final season. Eshe played 116 career games while totaling 775 points and 561 rebounds and owns the third-best free throw percentage in program history at .802.

As a prep player, Eshe was an Adidas All-America selection in 2000, a Nike All-America in 2001 and a finalist for the McDonald's All-America team in 2002.

Eshe has extensive club basketball experience, including serving as an assistant coach and coach of player development for the Essence Girls Basketball Nike National Team in Tallahassee from 2007-12 and in 2013. She was also the assistant director of for some of the top recruiting tournaments at Basketball on the Bayou in New Orleans in 2012, Showtime Unlimited and Garden City.
