GREENSBORO, N.C. - J'Kyra Brown, who will be a freshman guard for the East Carolina women's basketball team beginning in the 2013-14 season, started in the North Carolina East-West All-Star game on Monday night. Brown helped lead the East All-Stars to a 67-60 victory over the West All-Stars as she represented Rocky Mount High School in the annual contest.
Brown finished the game with 12 points, which tied for the team-high, five rebounds, two assists, one block and a game-high six steals in 24 minutes of action. She connected on 5-of-10 free throws and made the only three-point field goal for the East All-Stars. She helped the East team collect 20 steals, while limiting the West All-Stars to just nine. Additionally, Brown's squad out-shot the West All-Stars 38.5-percent to 24.1-percent in the first half.
"We are very proud of J'Kyra," East Carolina head coach Heather Macy said. "It was an honor for her to represent North Carolina and eastern North Carolina last night. She did an excellent job showing what she can do and helped the East capture the win. We can't wait to have her at ECU and performing at the high-level we know she is capable of."
Brown was a three-year varsity letterwinner at Rocky Mount High School where she set the scoring record with 1,665 career points en route to being named the 2013 North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association (NCBCA) Player of the Year.
