Cherie Mills Leads Lady Pirates with 15 Points in Annual Purple-Gold Scrimmage
Oct. 21, 2006 Greenville, N.C. - Senior all-conference forward Cherie Mills led the Lady Pirates with 15 points and six rebounds in ECU's intrasquad Purple-Gold scrimmage held during Homecoming festivities at Minges Coliseum Saturday morning. The Purple team was victorious, winning 39-35. Sophomore guard Jessica Slack also scored in double figures, finishing the afternoon with 13 points, including three three-pointers. Alicia Person and Jasmine Young each contributed nine points. Nicole Days led the squad with eight rebounds, while scoring three points. Freshmen Shana Franks had an impressive showing, playing the point position for most of the day. She ended the day with four points and four assists. Also in their Lady Pirate debuts were Lauren Cochran and Erica Crumlin, who each added four points while Cochran had three rebounds and Crumlin pulled down six boards. Impris Manning and LaCoya Terry each grabbed five rebounds on the day. The scrimmage was comprised of a twenty minute first half and a ten minute second half. Each player split time between the Gold and the Purple teams. The Purple team maintained the lead for most of the game, including a 29-21 advantage at the break. The Lady Pirates open the 2006-07 season on Nov. 12 as they travel to Harrisonburg, Va. to play James Madison in a 2:00 p.m. game.
