Lady Pirates Travel To Raleigh For Midweek Match-up With The Wolfpack
12/02/2003 GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Coming off a disappointing loss to Ball State (81-78) in the championship game of the Lady Pirate Invitational, ECU will head to Raleigh, N.C., to take on instate rival N.C. State Wednesday night at Reynolds Coliseum with a 7 p.m. tip-off scheduled. The Lady Pirates (2-2) will look to snap a 17-game loosing streak at the hands of the Wolfpack that dates back to 1982. The two rivals met last season with N.C. State walking away with an 80-56 victory. In the Lady Pirates last outing, four ladies scored in double figures with senior center Courtney Willis leading the way with 23 points. Willis also grabbed 12 boards and recorded her third consecutive double-double of the season. Junior guard Jennifer Jackson scored 19 points and was 5-of-13 from the three-point arc. LaToya Horton and Tamekia Powell both added 10 points. N.C. State enters the game with a 2-2 record, posting victories against Loyola Marymount and Sacramento State, while falling to nationally ranked Texas (No. 2) and Oregon (No. 24). This past Saturday the Wolfpack fell to Oregon, 83-78, in the second round of the Oregon Classic, despite a 25 point effort from senior Kaayla Chones, who is averaging 18.3 points per game. ECU will be back at home this weekend as they host the Third Annual U.S. Cellular Classic inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
