Lady Pirates Set To Host CPW's/Atavola's Lady Pirate Invitational

Greenville, N.C. - The East Carolina women's basketball team will look to snap a four-game losing streak Saturday, Dec. 4 when the host Stephen F. Austin in the second game (3 p.m.) of the CPW's/Atavola's Lady Pirate Invitational. Nationally ranked Baylor and Jackson State open the tournament at 1 p.m. inside Williams Arena in Minges Coliseum.

About the Pirates:
East Carolina (1-4) will look to snap a four game losing streak on the season. The Pirates are led in scoring by senior guard Jennifer Jackson, who recorded her first double-double of the season against Savannah State with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Senior's Shanita Sutton and Soraya Hellaby have been a strong presence in the front court for ECU as Sutton is averaging nine points and six boards a game, whille Hellaby is averaging six points and has hit 50 percent of her shots from the floor.

About Stephen F. Austin:
Junior forward LaToya Mills leads the Ladyjack (1-1) basketball team in scoring with an average of 9.3 points per game. Reserve foward Britany Vinson collected a team-high 17 points in the first win of the season against Illinois State, 66-60. SFA and the Pirates will meet for the first time ever when they square off in the second game of the tournament on Saturday, Dec. 4.

About Baylor:
The nationally ranked Bears (No. 9/ 11) have won four straight games after falling to LSU, 71-70, in the first game of the State Farm Tip-Off Classic. Preseason Naismith Trophy Candidate Steffanie Blackmon is averaging 16.8 points a game, while Sophia Young is averaging a double-double on the young season with 16.2 ppg and 10.0 rpg.

About Jackson State:
The Lady Tigers (1-1) come into the tournament off a 53-47 win over Radford and have three players averaging double-figures. Forward Shante Stanford recorded 10 points and six rebounds against Radford and is averageing 12.0 points on the season.

The Pirates will play at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5 against either Baylor or Jackson State.
