IRVING, Texas - Freshman guard J'Kyra Brown was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week for the first time in her collegiate career after her performance at the ULM Warhawk Classic over the weekend.
Brown helped the Pirates to a 1-1 record and an appearance in the ULM Warhawk Classic championship game after averaging 10.5 points per game, 2.5 rebounds per game, 1.0 assists per game, 0.5 steals per game, and 0.5 blocks per game. She finished the weekend shooting 53.8-percent from the field, 57.1 percent from beyond the arc, and was 3-for-3 from the free throw line. Brown poured in 18 points in the Pirates' 85-42 victory over Alcorn State on Friday.
The Rocky Mount, N.C., native is averaging 6.1 points per game and 2.1 rebounds per game on the season. She has also contributed four assists, four blocks and three steals. In nine games so far, Brown owns a 42.5-percent field goal percentage, while shooting 37.5-percent from three-point range, and 80-percent from the charity stripe.
Brown earned the honors along with Takia Brooks of Florida Atlantic and Tamara Jones of Southern Miss who took home Co-Player of the Week accolades. She is the first Pirate to collect the award this season.
East Carolina will take on Norfolk State on Tuesday, December 17, at 6 p.m., in Norfolk, Va.
