Following a breakout senior year where she became the eighth East Carolina women's golfer in program history to claim medalist honors at an event, Julia Strandberg joins the Pirate staff as an assistant coach in 2012.

Strandberg, who was a member of four consecutive NCAA Regional teams, closed out her career claiming a pair of Conference USA Golfer-of-the-Week honors during her senior season to go along with the Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup individual title. In 22 career events, she posted a 79.25 stroke average with a pair of top-5 finishes.

The Greensboro, N.C. native played in three events during her freshman year in 2008 posting an 81.67 stroke average in nine rounds. In her first collegiate event, she finished tied for 64th at the Chip-N-Club Invitational with a tournament score of 245.

After her sophomore year, where she played in just one event, Strandberg participated in 11 events as a junior posting an 80.58 stroke average (19 rounds). She carded a then career-low 73 (2-over par) during the first round of the Windy City Challenge, where she finished tied for 33rd with a 54-hole scored of 233. She followed that with another 233 (78-77-78) score at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate helping the Pirates to a second place finish. In the spring of her junior year, she posted her first career Top-25 finish at the UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic with a two-day score of 159.

Last year she was an integral part of the Pirates fifth-straight NCAA Regional squad playing in 11 events with a 77.25 stroke average. In her first event, she finished third at the prestigious Golfweek Challenge with an even par 216 helping the Pirates claim their 21st career team title in the programs 12 years of existence. Strandberg followed that event by winning the rain-shortened Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup with a 1 over 145 and became the Pirates lone medalist winner of the season.

In all, she recorded four Top-30 finishes and posted a career-low round of 68 at the Golfweek Challenge, which is tied for the seventh-lowest round in school history. She also became the fourth player in school history to earn player-of-the-week honors twice in a season joining Abby Bools, Lene Krog and Amber Littman.

Off the golf course, Strandberg was a two-time National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American, four-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and seven-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll recipient. Strandberg earned her bachelor's degree in public relations with a minor in Spanish in May of 2012.
