CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The 54th-ranked East Carolina women's golf team is in seventh place after two round at the 2014 Hurricane Invitational.
A day after shooting a 290 that put them in fifth place after round one, the Pirates combined to shoot a 298 on Tuesday at the Biltmore Golf Course. ECU's total team score through two round is 588, 17 strokes behind the tournament leader, No. 25 Iowa State. No. 18 Northwestern sits in second place with a score of 574, while host institution No. 30 Miami is third at 579. Rounding out the Top 5 are No. 69 Mercer and No. 65 Campbell, who are both tied for fourth with a two-day score of 585.
The Pirates are led by senior Fanny Wolte and sophomore Nicoline Engstroem Skaug. Wolte turned in the top score by a Pirate on Tuesday, finishing 1-over par, which consisted of three birdies, four bogeys and 11 pars. Skaug was two strokes behind her shooting a 3-over par 74 with two birdies, five bogies and 11 pars. Wolte and Skaug head into Wednesday's final round in a tie for 13th and 18th place, respectively.
After firing a 69 for the second consecutive day, Iowa State's Sasikarn On-lam is the individual leader at 4-under 138. Middle Tennessee's Avery George (3-under, 139), Miami's Daniela Darquea (2-under, 140), Mercer's Sarah Louie Brown (1-under, 141) and Longwood's Amanda Steinhagen (1-under, 141) round out the Top 5 individuals through two rounds.
Final round action is set to begin at 8 a.m. (EST) with a shotgun start. Pirate fans can follow all the action online at GolfStat. The 2014 Hurricane Invitational will be played over three days at the par-71, 6,092-yard course at the Biltmore, a few miles from the University of Miami campus.
