Pinehurst, N.C. -The East Carolina women's golf team placed three golfers in the top-12 and claimed the team title at the 2007 Pinehurst Challenge, which was held at the Pinehurst No. 8 course in Pinehurst, N.C.

The Pirates carded a team 36-hole score of 613 tying in-state rival N.C. State, but was named the team champion after Emelie Lind (t-38th), the Pirates fifth golfer, finished higher than the Wolfpack's Nancy Mountcastle (t-64th), declaring ECU the tournament champion.

"Our girls have worked hard to prepare for this spring's events," said Head Coach Kim Lewellen. "It is great to see all the hard work payoff for them and I am excited to see what we can do next."

Individually for the Pirates, sophomore sensation Lene Krog fired a tournament score of 149 (75-74) and shared medalist honors with Arkansas-Little Rock's Sara Wikstrom. The freshman tandem of Ana Maria Puche (t-6th) and Abby Bools (t-12th) each finished in the top-15.

The Pirates will be back in action on March 19-20 when they participate in the USF Waterlefe Invitational in Bradenton, Fla.
