Lady Pirate Golf Finishes Sixth At Pinehurst Challenge

Pinehurst, N.C. - Freshman Lene Krog recorded her fourth top-ten finish of the season Tuesday with a 54-hole total 229 finishing eight shots off the lead in ninth place at the Pinehurst Challenge in Pinehurst, N.C. Senior Jamie Quinn helped the Pirates (65-25-3) to a sixth place team finish after posting a final round 76 for a tournament score of 233 finishing tied for 14th. Heidi Helliesen finished tied for 31st, Emelie Lind came in 48th (242) and Jessica Hauser tied for 62nd. Maryland won the tournament while UNC Wilmington's Michelle Jarman (221) won individual medalist honors for the second year in a row. UNC Wilmington finished tied for second along with Mississippi State with a 922, just five strokes behind leader Miami. Finishing fourth was Iowa was with a 933 and in fifth was 2005 defending champion Washington State with a 935. "We struggled a bit this weekend," said head coach Kim Lewellen. "The wind played a big factor in this week, but we missed shots that we should have made. We need to get back on the course and get ready for this weekend's tournament, which is one of the best in the country."
