JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - East Carolina posted a final round score of 300 to claim a second-place finish at the Web.com Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon at the Marsh Landing Country Club. For the Pirates (87-30-1) it marks their fourth Top-4 finish of the 2013-14 season.

ECU, who entered the event ranked No. 52 nationally by Golfstat, concluded the two-day, 54-hole event with a score of 875 (289-286-300) finishing two shots ahead of No. 24 Ohio State (877) and seven ahead of No. 17 UCF (882). Thirty-fifth ranked Florida State took home team honors with a tournament record 13-under par 851. Maryland rounded out the Top-5 with a 19-over 883 to finish fifth.

"I was very pleased with the way we competed this week," ECU Head Coach Kevin Williams said. "The day started slow with a big weather delay, but we came out and continued to play our best golf of the season and were able to pick up some big wins over three Top-25 teams."

The sophomore duo of Nicoline Engstroem Skaug (72-72-72) and Frida Gustafsson Spang (74-69-73) finished tied for eighth with an even score of 216. Skaug recorded 37 pars and nine birdies for her fifth Top-15 finish of the season. Spang ranked among the tournament leaders in par-3 and par-4 scoring as well as total birdies en route to her sixth Top-15 placement. Both also finished ahead of four golfers ranked in the Top-100 nationally by Golfstat.

Junior Katie Kirk (70-73-78) claimed a share of 25th with a 9-over par 225. She posted 39 pars to go along with six birdies for her third Top-25 finish. Senior Fanny Wolte (73-73-77=223) came in two shots behind Kirk tying for 35th, while sophomore Lane Gakeler (76-72-84=232) finished tied for 73rd.

Florida State's Matilda Castren cruised to medalist honors firing of 69, 66 and 69 setting a new 54-hole record of 204. Juliet Vongphoumy (Maryland) and Alex Milan (FSU) finished tied for second four strokes behind Castren at 208. Rounding out the Top-5 were Jordan Britt (Chattanooga) and Shabril Brewer (James Madison) with scores of 212 and 213.

The Pirates will be back in action April 21-23 when they participate in the 2014 Conference USA Championships. The three-day event is being held at the Peninsula Golf Club in Gulf Shores, Ala.
