Wolte Finishes Tied For Sixth At Marsh Landing

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - East Carolina junior Fanny Wolte carded her third-straight round of even-par 72 finishing tied for sixth place at the Marsh Landing Invitational Tuesday afternoon. The two-day, 54-hole event was being held at the par-72, 6,056-yard Marsh Landing Country Club.
Wolte, who picked up her first top-10 finish of the season and eighth of her career, was stellar in the event carding three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars in all three of her rounds. She finished with a season-best score of 216 and ranked first among the 104-man field in par-4 scoring (3.87 (4-under), while tying for ninth in total birdies made (nine).
The freshmen duo of Frida Gustafsson Spang (224) and Nico Engstroem Skaug (226) finished tied for 36th and 43rd, while sophomores Katie Kirk (229) and Emily Eng (231) claimed shares of 59th and 68th to round out the Pirates squad.
"Proud of our tea for coming back Tuesday with a good round after our opening day struggles" said ECU Head Coach Kevin Williams. Fanny was very solid all three rounds and that was encouraging to see. This golf course was a great tune up for the Conference USA Championship course, which we will play in two weeks."
The Pirates (108-54-1), who are ranked No. 49 by Golfstat, posted the fourth-lowest round of the day carding a 5-over 293 that moved them up two spots after Monday's round to a share of eighth place. Fourteenth-ranked Purdue claimed the team title with an impressive 7-under par 857 finishing nine strokes ahead of No. 28 Iowa State (865). No. 17 Texas Tech (869) finished third followed by No. 47 Florida State (886) and No. 41 UCF (887).
Paula Reto (Purdue) and Gabriella Dominguez (Texas Tech) finished tied at 212 (4-under) in regulation, and Reto captured the individual title by besting Dominguez in a playoff to claim her second individual championship this season and the fourth of her career.
The Pirates will be back in action when they participate in the C-USA Championships (Apr. 22-24), which will be played at the Peninsula Golf Course in Gulf Shores, Ala.
