Final Results

GULF SHORES, Ala. -The East Carolina women's golf team posted a final round 21-over 309 and finished in sixth place at the 2012 Conference USA Women's Golf Championships, which was being held at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Senior Amy Otteson (224) carded a final round 3-over 75 and finished the 54-hole event in a three-way tie for seventh place. Sophomore Fanny Wolte (231) finished tied for 18th after shooting a final round 7-over 79. Senior Julia Strandberg (238) posted her best score of the event with a 4-over 76 to finish 30th, while redshirt sophomore Faith Hardison (239) took a share of 31st and freshman Katie Kirk (251) placed 41st.

No. 33 Tulsa went wire-to-wire to claim the tournament title with a three-day total of 884 (299-291-294) to win by 13 stokes over No. 38 UCF (306-293-298=897). With the win, the Golden Hurricane receives C-USA's automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals. The championship is the second C-USA title for Tulsa with the first coming in 2008.

Tulane's Maribel Lopez Porras (216) won the individual championship by four shots over SMU's Felicia Espericueta (220). Rounding out the top five were Tulsa's Marita Engzelius and UCF's Katie Mitchell, who shared third place with a 5-over par 221 and Kristina Merkle finished fifth at 6-over 222.

 

 

The Pirates will learn their fate for NCAA post-season play on Monday, April 30. The selection committee will hold a conference call at 7 p.m. (EST) and will select 24 teams in each of the three regions as well as a total of nine individuals to be placed in each region.
