AUBURN, Ala. - Freshman Nicoline Engstroem Skaug carded an opening round 1-under par 71 during the first round of the NCAA East Regional at the Auburn University Golf Club and currently sits in a tie for 14th place.

The Oslo, Norway native posted a 36 on the front nine with a birdie on the first hole and added three more birdies on the back nine for a 1-under 35. After 18 holes, Skaug is four shots behind the leaders, who stand at 5-under par.

Fellow freshman Frida Gustafsson Spang is tied for 44th after carding an opening round 2-over par 74 (37-37) registering her lone birdie on the seventh hole. Junior Fanny Wolte is one shot behind Spang with a 3-over par 75 (38-37). Sophomores Emily Eng (43-38=81) and Katie Kirk (41-41=82) are tied for 109th and 116th place.

The Pirates (117-55-1) are tied with Kentucky and Texas State in 15th place after posting a 13-over par 301. Second-ranked Alabama holds a six-stroke lead over No. 5 Arkansas and No. 20 Tulane after Thursday's opening round. The Crimson Tide posted an 11-under par 277.

No. 8 UCLA is in fourth at even-par, followed by No. 23 Texas at 1-over and No. 17 Oklahoma State and No. 11 North Carolina at 2-over.

Emma Talley (Alabama) carded her lowest round of her career with a 5-under 67. Talley birdied No. 7 to make the turn at 1-under, before striking an eagle on the par-5 No. 12. Talley closed out the round with birdies on Nos. 16 and 18 to finish at 5-under and is tied for the lead with Arkansas' Emma Lavy and Tennessee's Erica Popson.

Popson, who started the round on hole 10, carded back-to-back birdies on Nos. 15 and 16, before firing birdies on Nos. 1, 3 and 4. After a bogey on No. 5, Popson rebounded with a birdie on No. 7.

Lavy started the round with a bogey on No. 1, but responded with four birdies on the next six holes to move to 3-under. On the back-9, Lavy carded back-to-back birdies on Nos. 13 and 14.
