SKOKIE, Ill. -Junior Ana Maria Puche fired a final round one-under-par (71) to claim a share of sixth place at the 2008 Windy City Collegiate Classic Tuesday afternoon. The event was being played at the par-72, 6,320-yard Evanston Golf Club, which is the home of Northwestern Golf.

Puche, who entered the day tied for 16th, started her round with a bogey on No. 10 but then rebounded as she birdied two of the next three holes dropping to one-under for the round. After a birdie on the 17th hole put her at two-under, she then bogeyed No. 18 to finish the back nine with a one-under par 35. Puche continued her stellar play on the front side by paring her next five holes before registering another birdie, this time on the sixth hole just before dropping another stroke on the eighth green.

The Barranquilla, Colombia native tied her career-low round of 71, while also tying her career 54-hole score of 222 which she previously set during her freshman campaign.

Amber Littman recorded her eighth career Top 20 finish after claiming a share of 15th place with a score of 225 (76-74-75). Fellow sophomore Colleen Estes finished tied for 36th (81-77-75=233), while Abby Bools (88-77-75=240) and Amy Otteson (85-77-78=240) finished tied for 50th.

In the team portion of the event, the Pirates (16-8) shot a third-round best score of 296 moving up from tenth place to a share of sixth (320-301-296=917). Purdue held its eight-shot lead going into final round action and took home the team title with a score of 891 (301-290-300). Rounding out the top five were TCU (900), Michigan (902), Arizona (904) and Oklahoma (909). The University of Texas (308-303-306=917) finished tied with the Pirates.

 

 

Individual honors went to Junthima Gulyanamitta (Purdue) who won by six strokes over TCU's Brook Beeler (218). Ellen Mueller (Oklahoma/220) was third followed by Maria Hernandez (221/Purdue) and Min Yean Tan (221/Michigan) in a tie for fourth.

The Pirates will be back on the links next week when they travel to Greensboro, N.C. to participate in the UNCG/Starmount from Oct. 12-14.
