ECU Finishes Third At Lady Pirate Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. -In its final event of the fall season, East Carolina carded a 19-over par 307 to finish third at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate. The two-day, 54-hole event was being held at the Greenville Country Club.
East Tennessee State claimed team honors with a final round score of 13-over 301 and a 54-hole total of 897 finishing four shots ahead of Middle Tennessee (901). Rounding out the top five were ECU (904), Georgia State (908) and Old Dominion (909).
Since the event began in 2000, the Pirates have claimed three titles (2000-02), finished second four times (2003, 2008-10) and third three times (2004, 2011, 2013).
"It was a tough week for us from a weather standpoint and mentally we didn't adjust and that affected our play," ECU Head Coach Kevin Williams said. "But we will learn from this minor set back and turn our focus to the preparing for the spring. Overall I was pleased with the team as a whole recording four top four finishes."
Sophomore Nicoline Engstroem Skaug (220) carded a final round 2-over 74 to claim a share of fifth place and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. The Oslo, Norway native posted her second-straight top five finish and ranked among the tournament leaders in par-4 scoring (3rd/3-over), total pars (t6th/35), birdies (t10th/8) and par-5 scoring (t10th/2-under).
Fellow classmate Frida Gustafsson Spang (226) joined Engstroem Skaug atop the leaderboard finished tied for 12th following a final round 2-over 74. For the Kinna, Sweden native it was her third top-20 finish in four fall events and 10th of her career. She finished among the event leaders in par-3 scoring (t2nd/even), total birdies (t2nd/10) and par-4 scoring (t15th/9-over).
Avery George (MTSU) took home individual medalist honors posting the only 54-hole score under par at 215 (1-under). Longwood's Amanda Steinhagen carded the only round of the day under par with her 4-under 68 to finish second at 218. Juliet Vongphoumy (Maryland), who recorded her third-straight top-five finish at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, and Jordan Britt (Chattanooga) finished tied for third at 220 (4-over), while Vivienne Chin (ETSU) tied with Engstroem Skaug for fifth.
ECU will return to action in early February (9-11) when they travel to Orlando, Fla. to participate in the UCF Challenge.
