Brady and Spang Duo Named C-USA Golfers-of-the-Week

IRVING, Texas - East Carolina senior Eric Brady and sophomore Frida Gustafsson Spang swept the Conference USA Golfer-of-the-Week awards the league office announced Wednesday. Brady finished fourth in the UTSA Oak Hills invitational, helping his team to a fourth-place finish, while Spang tied for 14th in the UCF Challenge, earning her ninth top-15 finish of her career.
Brady earned a fourth-place finish at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational with a 3-over 216 (74-71-71). It was his second top-5 finish of the season and third top-10. The senior shot 3-over in the opening round then shot even par in the each of the next two rounds, burying 10 birdies, to finish ahead of four ranked players. Brady was the highest finisher among the six Conference USA schools competing (ECU, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Tulsa, UTEP, UTSA), and led the Pirates to a fourth-place team finish. It was the fourth time this year that he was the team's top scorer. This is Brady's third C-USA weekly honor this season and for his career.
Spang recorded her ninth career top-15 finish (10th top-20) after taking a share of 14th place in a field of 104 at the UCF Challenge. She posted a 75-70-70 in the tournament for a 1-under par 215, tying her season low 54-hole score. The sophomore finished among the tournament leaders in par-5 scoring (second at 6-under) and birdies (t4th with 11), while tallying 36 total pars. After an opening round of 75 where she was tied for 49th, Spang posted back-to-back rounds of 2-under par, moving up to 14th. Currently she owns a 73.8 18-hole stroke average, which leads the Pirates squad. This is the first weekly award for Spang this season and the third of her career.
