Bools Named To All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas -East Carolina senior Abby Bools was one of five golfers named to the 2010 Conference USA Women's Golf All-Academic Team as announced by the league office over the weekend. The all-academic team consists of students who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a regular participant on their team. All five members of this year's squad are C-USA Academic Medalists, sporting a 3.75 GPA or better.
Bools makes her third consecutive appearance on the All-Academic Team as a history major with a minor in communications. The Hickory, N.C., native sports a 3.75 GPA and is a three-time National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Scholar All-American. The senior golfer owns a 74.58 stroke average and was awarded the C-USA Golfer of the Week accolades four times this season. In 2009, Bools also received the C-USA Sportsmanship Award.
Marshall's Larie Lynch and Katie Detlefsen of UCF also earned repeat honors on the squad this year. Lynch is a two-time Lady Herd Tournament medalist and was named the C-USA Golfer of the Week twice this season. The Huntington, W.Va., native is a three-time NGCA Scholar All-American as a marketing student with a 3.85 GPA.
Detlefsen earned her bachelor's degree in advertising and public relations in two years and is working towards a Master's in Mass Communications at UCF. The Eaga, Minn., native carries a perfect 4.0 GPA and was named an NCGA Scholar All-American in 2009. On the course, Detlefsen sports a 77.68 stroke average and garnered two top-10 finishes this season.
Carolyn Cochran of UAB is the lone junior on the squad. The Daphne, Ala., native is a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medalist with a 3.97 GPA in biology. Cochran was named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week on Oct. 14 and took the individual title at the UAB Fall Beach Blast in November.
Rounding out the 2010 C-USA Women's Golf All-Academic Team is Memphis sophomore Marissa Steen. The West Chester, Ohio native owns a 3.90 GPA in sports and leisure management and is a two-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medalist. The sophomore earned medalist honors at the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational and led the Tigers to their second title of the season.
