Fanny Wolte Named To 2012 C-USA All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas - East Carolina sophomore Fanny Wolte is one of five women's golfers named to the 2012 Conference USA Women's Golf Academic Team after a vote by the league's sports information directors for women's golf. Wolte, the lone underclassmen, is joined by four seniors, who hold a minimum 3.2 GPA, classified as at least a sophomore and having competed in at least 75 percent of their team's scheduled tournaments are eligible for the all-academic team.
Wolte sports a 3.93 GPA in the classroom as a marketing major. The native of Graz, Austria, started her sophomore season with three consecutive Top 15 finishes. That included a sixth place finish at the Golfweek Program Challenge where she tied her personal-best round with a 69. During her two-year career with the Pirates, she owns a 74.84 stroke average to rank first all-time among golfers who have completed at least 50 rounds.
Memphis senior Marissa Steen earns her third-straight All-Academic Team recognition as she holds a 3.94 mark as a sport and leisure management major. Steen was the individual runner-up at the 2011 C-USA Championship to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team. She then opened her senior season by carding a two-under par 70 in the Chris Banister Golf Classic. A native of West Chester, Ohio, Steen is a five-time Golfer of the Week selection and three-time NGCA All-America Scholar. As with all five members of the All-Academic Team, Steen was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and earned the Commissioner's Academic Medal.
Steen is joined on the all-academic squad by her teammate Kathleen Glavin. Another three-time NGCA All-America Scholar, Glavin has maintained a 3.94 GPA as a health and human performance, exercise and sports science major. The Dayton, Ohio wrapped up the fall 2011 season with medalist honors at the UAB Fall Beach Blast, and was named C-USA Golfer of the Week following that performance. This spring, she fired a career-low 71 at the UCF Challenge.
Southern Miss senior Sandra Sohlberg is an International business major with a 3.95 grade point average. The Stockholm, Sweden, native has earned two Top 10 finishes this season, placing fifth at the USF/Waterlefe Invitational and finishing sixth at the UAB Fall Beach Blast. She is a four-time member of the President's List and was named a NGCA All-America Scholar in 2010 and 2011.
Rounding out the 2012 team is Tulsa's Marita Engzelius has maintained a 3.77 grade point average through her senior year as an exercise and sports science major. An All-Conference second-team selection a year ago, Engzelius has registered eight Top 10 finishes during her career. This season she has compiled a 75.1 stroke average in 21 rounds this season, placing among the Top 25 in six of seven tournaments. The Oslo, Norway, native has also earned a spot on the Dean's List her first three seasons at TU.
The 2012 C-USA Women's Golf Championship is scheduled for April 23-25 at the Peninsula Golf Club in Gulf Shores, Ala. Below is a complete list of the honorees:
