Adrienne Millican Finishes Second At C-USA Women's Golf Championship
04/21/2004

FORT WORTH, TEXAS – East Carolina's Adrienne Millican claimed second place honors after posting a final round four-over par 76 at the 2004 Conference USA Women's Golf Championships. The tournament was being played at the par-72, 6,197-yard Shady Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

Millican (75-76-76=227), who was named first team all-conference on Wednesday, finished one stroke behind Tulane's Liliana Alvarez (226) for the championship. Alvarez made a birdie on hole No. 17 to seal the individual championship. Alvarez's teammate, Mary Ellen Jacobs, finished in third with a 54-hole total of 229, while C-USA's Player of the Year, Brooke Tull (TCU) finished fourth.

The Lady Pirates (92-46-1), playing one golfer down, finished in fifth place, despite posting the second lowest round of the day, 314. Margaret Mitchell paced the Lady Pirates third round attack with a two-over par 74 and finished tied for 14th overall.

In the team portion of the tournament, Tulane (940) led coast-to-coast and finished 19 strokes ahead of host school TCU (959). USF finished third (970) followed by Louisville (976) and ECU (978) rounding out the top five.

UAB and Southern Miss tied for sixth (995), while Memphis (1029) and Cincinnati (1070) finished eighth and ninth.

"Our team showed a lot of heart today," said head golf coach Kevin Williams. "To come out today and post the second best score of the round with just four golfers, shows what kind of team we have. Adrienne had a great tournament and I am extremely proud of her performance this week, especially the way she kept her poise and showed patience on this difficult course."

The Lady Pirates will sit and wait to see if they qualify for the NCAA Regionals, which will be announced Monday, April 26.
