DADE CITY, Fla. -- East Carolina's women placed third while the men finished eighth as both teams completed the final round of the 2003 Conference USA Golf Championships today at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla.

On the women's side, the Pirates shot a 317 in the final round to finish in the third place spot they held all week. ECU finished with a final score of 933.

Adrienne Millican and Margaret Mitchell finished the tournament in a tie for eighth place. The two women shot 232 over the three-day event. Millican, who was in a tie for first after day two, shot a disappointing 82 in the final round, to drop to eighth place. Millican shot a 79 in the final round of play.

"I was really pleased with the way we competed here this week," said Williams in regards to the women. "We have had a great season this year, and will most likely receive a bid to the NCAA East Regional, and we are very excited about the prospect of that happening. We will find out for sure next week."

The ECU men completed the tournament in a tie for eighth with a three-round score of 892. ECU shot 297 in the first two rounds, and shot a 298 in round three to finish at 40 strokes over par.

Jason Harris and Jonathan Hill were the top two finishes for East Carolina, completing the tournament in a tie for 13th place. Each of the men had a three-round score of 219. Harris shot 73 in round one and a 72 and 74 in rounds two and three respectively. Hill had an opening round score of 74 and finished the tournament with scores of 72 and 73.

"Obviously we were disappointed in our eighth place finish here," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "We just didn't play very well. However, I was pleased with the year overall. We had a school record eight top-five finishes and we are not going to let one event rain on what was a very successful season. We are pleased with the season and are looking forward to an exciting future."

The men will most likely not qualify for the NCAA East Regionals, but Hill still has a shot of receiving a bid to play as an individual. The announcement will be made on May 5.
