COLUMBUS, Ohio - The East Carolina women's golf team carded a second round 310 (22-over) and moved up four spots to 20th place at the 2012 NCAA Central Regional. The three-day, 54-hole event is being held at the par-72, 6,264-yard Scarlet Course and is hosted by Ohio State.
With 18 holes remaining the Pirates are 27 shots out of eighth place, which is the cut for making the NCAA Championships.
Redshirt sophomore Faith Hardison (157) carded a team-best 1-over par 73 and moved up to a share of 47th place. Senior Amy Otteson (158/t61st) posted a second round 4-over par 76, while sophomore Fanny Wolte (160/t73rd) fired a 6-over par 78. Rounding out ECU's squad are the freshmen duo of Emily Eng (165) and Katie Kirk (189) who tied for 106th and 126th.
Top-seeded Southern Cal fired a team score of 2-over 290 and holds a 12-stroke lead over Vanderbilt and Virginia, who both soared up the leaderboard Saturday afternoon. The Commodores shot a 4-over 292 for a two-day total of 24-over 600. Virginia sits at 28-over 604 following an 8-over 296 on the day.
USC's Lisa McCloskey shot a 4-under 68 to take control of the individual leaderboard with a 3-under 141. Two other individuals fired 68s on the day and three are tied for second overall with a 1-under 143.
The third and final round of the tournament will begin Saturday with 8 a.m. tee times. The top eight teams and top two individuals not on the advancing teams will move on to the 2012 NCAA Championships held May 22-25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
