Katie Kirk opens play at the 114th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship on Aug. 4
GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina rising senior Katie Kirk will step on to the national stage next week when she participates in the 114th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship at the historic par-72, 6,297-yard Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, N.Y. starting on Monday, Aug. 4.
The Davidson, N.C. native qualified for the event after posting a 1-over 72, which included a 3-over 38 on the front nine and a 2-under 34 on the back nine where she took a share of fifth place. The sectional qualifying was held at the par 71, 6,323-yard Sapona Ridge Country Club in Lexington, N.C. back on July 2.
Kirk is set to tee off from the 10th hole on Monday, Aug. 4 at 12:30 p.m. (ET), followed by her second round at 7:30 a.m. (ET) from the first home on Tuesday, Aug. 5.
Earlier this summer, Kirk claimed her first Carolina Golf Association (CGA) major championship title taking home medalist honors at the 88th Carolina's Women's Amateur Championship at the Wachesaw Plantation Club with a 4-over 220 (74-73-73). He strong summer continued at the Carolinas Women's Match Play where she carded a 67 as a qualifying medalist.
The U.S. Women's Amateur consists of 36 holes of stroke play on Aug. 4 and Aug. 5, after which the field will be reduced to the low 64 scorers. There will be six rounds of match play, starting Aug. 6. The quarterfinals, slated for Aug. 8, will be followed by the semifinals on Aug. 9. The championship is scheduled to conclude with a 36-hole final on Sunday, Aug. 10.
