Women's Golf Ends Up With Second Place Finish
09/08/2002 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The East Carolina University women's golf team ended up with a second place finish at the Unlimited Potential Bay Tree Classic sponsored by the College of Charleston. The tournament, which consisted of 36 teams and 180 players, was held at the 72-par, 5,873 yard Bay Tree Golf Course in Myrtle Beach, S.C. As a team, the Pirates completed the tournament with a three round score of 909, shooting 301, 302, and 306 in each round. The Pirates were just eight strokes away from the winner, UNC Wilmington, which finished the three day tournament with a combined score of 897. East Carolina's Adrienne Millican won the individual championship, the second of her career, with a final score of 218. She shot 74 in the third and final round of the tournament, and 73 and 71 in the first two rounds. She was two stroked under the second place finisher, Michelle Jarman from UNCW, who had a final score of 220. Jessica Krasny was named to the all-tournament team. She led all golfers after the first round, and ended up in a tie for fifth place with a final score of 225. "We've got to tip our hats to UNC Wilmington," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "They were on fire today, shooting a 295, and we just didn't have an answer for them, I am proud of the way our girls competed, but it just wasn't meant to be for us today. I'm also really proud of Adrienne and Jessica, they both had an excellent tournament performance. Hopefully we will get all of our players on the same page next week and have another good performance." The women will head to Ann Arbor, Mich., next weekend, September 14-15 to participate in the Wolverine Invitational sponsored by the University of Michigan.
