Women's Golf Finishes Eighth at Cougar Classic
09/16/2003 HANAHAN, S.C. -- The East Carolina University women's golf team finished in eighth place out of 17 teams today at the Cougar Classic. The tournament, which was hosted by the College of Charleston, was being played at the par-72, 6,026-yard Yeamans Hall in Hanahan, S.C. Notre Dame won the tournament, finishing the two-day event with a final score of 889 (285-304-300). The Pirates (9-7) shot a two-day total of 922 (304-307-311) and finished 33 strokes behind the leader. Furman, one of two teams in the field ranked higher than the Pirates, finished in second (895) and Maimi finished two strokes back of Furman for third (897). Conference USA opponents Louisville finished 10th, South Florida, the other ranked team ahead of ECU, finished 11th, and Cincinnati finished 16th. "I am disappointed in the way that we performed in this tournament," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "But this kind of performance gives us a real good look at the work we need to do to reach our expectations." ECU junior Adrienne Millican finished in a tie for 11th place, finishing the tournament at 225 (72-77-76).
