Women's Golf in Ninth Place after 36 Holes at Cougar Classic
09/16/2003 HANAHAN, S.C. -- The East Carolina University women's golf team is in ninth place after day one of the Cougar Classic. The tournament is being hosted by the College of Charleston and is being held at the par-72, 6,026-yard Yeamans Hall in Hanahan, S.C. The two-day event consists of 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday, with the field containing 17 teams. The Pirates shot a 304 and 307 for the first 36 holes for a combined 611 score. ECU trails the co-leaders Miami (Fla.) and Notre Dame, who shot 589 on 36 holes, by 22 strokes heading into the final 18 holes of the event. Furman is holding down third place with a score of 594, while North Carolina State is in fourth (601), and Mississippi is in fifth (603). ECU junior Adrienne Millican is currently tied for 16th after shooting even par on the first 18 holes and a five-over 77 on the second 18. She currently sits 10 stokes off the lead behind Tina Miller of Miami, who has a 36-hole total of 139. "I am a little disappointed in our play today," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "We seemed to be flat and didn't play with any consistency. We need to come out with more focus and determination tomorrow to have a chance to turn this event around." The final 18 holes of the tournament will be played today starting at 8:52 a.m. Pirate fans are able to get up to the minute scoring on Golfstat.com.
