GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's golf team is set to host the 2013 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate in Greenville, N.C. on Oct. 7-8 at the par-72, 6,004-yard Greenville Country Club.
The Pirates, who have finished in the top-three of the event four of the last five years, are joined in the 16-team field by Appalachian State, Boston College, No. 64 Chattanooga, No. 41 East Tennessee State, Elon, No. 50 Georgia State, James Madison, Longwood, Maryland, No. 85 Middle Tennessee, Old Dominion, No. 72 Penn State, UNC Wilmington, William & Mary and Winthrop.
Despite a rain-shorten event last year that reduced the event to just 18 holes, all three of the top performers are back including Maryland's Juliet Vongphoumy, who took home top honors and finished tied for second in 2011. Christina McQuiston (Boston College) and Lori Beth Adams (UNC Wilmington) came in second and third respectively in 2012.
Since the event began in 2000, the Pirates have claimed three titles (2000-02), finished second four times (2003, 2008-10) and third twice (2004, 2011).
ECU's Frida Gustafsson Spang and Nicoline Engstroem Skaug will begin play on the first hole, while Fanny Wolts and Katie Kirk will start on the second tee. Emily Eng will round out the Pirates roster starting off on the third hole. Playing as individuals for ECU, Lane Gakeler and Devan Murphy will get things going on the 13th hole, while Brittany Talton will open up on hole No. 14.
The two-day 54-hole event will have 36-holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. on both days. Pirate fans can catch all the live action by logging onto www.Golfstat.com.
