Oct. 25, 2006
GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina freshman Abby Bools was named Conference USA Women's Co-Golfer-of-the-Week according to a release from the league media relations office Wednesday afternoon.
Bools, a native of Hickory, N.C., posted her first collegiate top-10 finish by tying for sixth place at the 2006 Pirate Fall Invitational. She carded a two-over par 220 (72-77-71) and led the entire field with 13 total birdies, while the Pirates as a team had 34. In par-5 scoring, she ranked second with a 4.58 stroke average. On the season Bools has an 18-hole stroke average of 77.67.
The host Pirates placed 10th in a field of 20 teams, despite playing without sophomore sensation Lene Krog, the 2006 C-USA Championship medalist, first-team All C-USA selection and Freshman-of-the-Year, who was participating in the Women's World Amateur Championships in South Africa.
Bools is joined by Co-Golfer-of-the-Week Sara Hurwitch (UCF) and Men's Golfer-of-the-Week Zack Sucher (UAB) as C-USA honorees.
The Pirates will be back in action next week when they travel to Kiawah Island, S.C. to participate in the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Invitational on Oct. 30 and 31st.
