Billings Tied For Sixth After First Round

Kiawah Island, S.C. - East Carolina freshman Kristen Billings posted a one-over par 73 and currently sits in a tie for sixth place after 18 holes at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate. Play was suspended just after 5:30 p.m. due to darkness and will resume at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday. The tournament is being played at the par-72, 5,953 yard Oak Point Golf Club.
As a team the Pirates posted a first round score of 308 and is in a three-way tie for 11th place with Notre Dame and Wisconsin. Campbell leads the overall team portion of the event after 18 holes with a seven-over par 295. Sitting one stroke behind is Miami (Fla.) followed by Western Carolina (298) with Iowa State and East Tennessee State sharing fourth at 301.
Steffi Kirchmayr of the host school College of Charleston shot a 69 for the first round lead. Three players are tied for second after Kirchmayr as Desiree Karlsson of Western Carolina, Iowa State's Karly Pinder and Miami's Jessica Steward have a 71 each after one round.
ECU's Abby Bools, who picked up Co-Golfer-of-the-Week honors last week, is tied for 40th after a five-over par 77. Jessica Hauser is tied for 52nd (78), while Ana Maria Puche and Michelle Williams are tied for 67th with rounds of 80.
Second round action will continue Tuesday morning at 8:15 am, followed by a shotgun start for the final round.
