GREENVILLE, N.C.--Led by two goals from Blair Heffner, the East Carolina women's soccer team defeated High Point 3-1 Friday afternoon in the 2007 season opener. The Pirates are now 4-0 all-time against the Panthers and are 3-0 in season openers against High Point. ECU moves to 1-0 while High Point falls to 0-1.

After a scoreless first half, it was Jami Dickerson that got the Lady Pirates on the board first, as she scored on a header off of a Nicole Moore corner kick at the 41:59 mark.

High Point answered, knotting the game at 1-1 on a Megan Fielden throw with 36:01 remaining in the second half. However, on the very next possession, Heffner tallied her first goal of the year, off a pass from Jessica Swanson. Heffner's goal put ECU back on top, 2-1, with 35:30 to play in regulation.

Heffner increased the ECU lead to two goals as she took a pass from Sarah Kirkley at midfield and dribbled the ball down the middle of the field to score her second goal of the contest, giving the Pirates the 3-1 advantage with just under seven minutes to play.

"Our energy level was good today," head coach Rob Donnenwirth said. "We have a lot more depth this season so we were able to keep our legs fresh. It was a good effort from the whole team. We had great scoring opportunities and I believe that we will continue to get better and better with each game."

The Pirates return to action this Sunday, Sept. 2 as they face in-state foe Charlotte. Kick-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
