GREENVILLE, N.C. - Carrie Dail scored in the 23 minute of play lifting Charlotte to a 1-0 win in over East Carolina in non-conference action Monday night at the ECU Soccer Stadium. With the win, the 49ers improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Pirates fall to 2-3.

In a game that saw aggressive and stellar defensive play by both clubs on the night, Charlotte took an early lead in the first half when Dail scored her first goal of the 2012 campaign from 35 yards out off a pass from Darby Broeker. Dail, who had scored a pair of goals on Sunday before the game was cancelled due to severe weather, posted just one shot and made it count.

"I thought both teams played a great game," said ECU head coach Rob Donnenwirth. "There were a lot of things we did well tonight that we have been working on, but the bottom line is that they finished one of their chances and we didn't."

The Pirates had their opportunities in the match out shooting the 49ers 11-7, but only had three shots on goal compared to five for Charlotte. Keeper Alex Kubrick posted her third win in goal for the 49ers stopping three goals. In three matches this season, she has allowed just one goal and recorded 10 saves.

"This team [ECU] has to be more consistent with their mental preparations and being ready for games," Donnenwith added. "Give our girls credit, they came out and played extremely hard. I just thought we lacked a little bit of quality when we got near the goal. Whether it was with a shot, making the final pass that went too far or maybe the run didn't come quick enough. When we got into the final offensive third of the field, I thought our effort was great. It's tough when you get down there as the spaces are tight and you have to be quick with your decisions, and sometimes create your own shot. And that wasn't happening."

ECU keeper Christiane Cordero allowed one goal and stopped three shots in 90 minutes of action to push her season total to 15 saves.

Offensively Caty Butler, Lexi Miller and Rachel Wechsler each had two shots with Butler, Kelly Miller and L. Miller each recording a shot on goal. Maddie Kiebel led the 49ers with two shots, while Dail, Amanda Jones, Jennifer Lee, Brooke Mulloy and Monica Trickett posted shots on goal.

The Pirates will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 6 when they play host to High Point at 7 p.m. (ET).
