GREENVILLE, N.C. - UAB's Tiffini Turpin recorded her first career hat trick helping the Blazers (6-12-1, 3-7-1) to a 3-2 double overtime win over East Carolina (10-7-1, 5-6-0) Sunday afternoon at the ECU Soccer Stadium in the regular season finale for both schools.

Despite the loss, the Pirates season will continue when they head to Memphis, Tenn. for the 2011 Conference USA Soccer Championships this week as the fifth seed and will take on No. 4 UCF on November 2 at 6:30 p.m.

The Blazers notched the first goal of the match in the 36th minute when Abby Phillips served Turpin, who shot the ball from 21 yards out to find the back of the net.

Junior Chrissy Gratz scored the equalizer in the 79th minute on a free kick, launching a shot from 35 yards out past UAB keeper CJ Winship for her second goal of the season.

Three minutes later Carolyn Polcari recorded the first of her two assists, sending a pass to Turpin who beat Berit Hansen with a shot high under the cross bar for the go-ahead goal.

With four minutes remaining in regulation, freshman Lexi Miller tallied the equalizer, when Miller ripped a shot into the upper left corner of the goal for her second scoring strike of the year. Beth Batchelor started the run posting her second assist in her freshman campaign.

The score remained knotted 2-2 through the first overtime period. UAB wasted no time at the beginning of the second extended frame as Turpin netted the ball in the first 51 seconds. Polcari registered her second assist of the game as she found Turpin, who fired the shot into the lower left corner.

ECU out-cornered UAB 6-4 and held a 22-13 shot advantage, marking the third-straight game with 20-plus shots in a match. In her first start of the season (ninth career), Hansen tallied three of the Pirates four saves in 101 minutes of action. Winship made 10 on the afternoon for her fifth win between the posts.

Gratz led all players with seven shots (five on goal), while UAB's Turpin posted five on the day (four on goal). Redshirt freshman Danielle Romano and redshirt-sophomore recorded their first collegiate starts in the Pirates loss.
