June 29, 2009
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Nicole Moore, who recently graduated from East Carolina University and served as a defender for the women's soccer program, has been named a recipient of the Jim Castañeda Conference USA Postgraduate Scholarship Award, according to an announcement by league commissioner Britton Banowsky. C-USA annually presents the $4,000 Postgraduate Scholarship awards to graduates of member institutions as selected by league Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors. This is the first year the award has been named for Dr. Castañeda, who served Rice University for 46 years as an educator, coach and Faculty Athletics Representative before he passed away in November. Moore is a two-time C-USA All-Academic Team honoree and recently earned her bachelor's degree in exercise physiology with a cumulative GPA of 4.0. The Rutherfordton, N.C., native was named to the East Carolina Chancellor's List every semester she attended the university and was one of three co-captains for the Pirates last season, helping the program to its first-ever C-USA regular season title. Moore has also earned C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll status four times while garnering three C-USA Academic Medals. Additionally, she gained acceptance into the medical school at UNC-Chapel Hill, beginning in the fall. 2008-09 POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
