GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's soccer team will be back in action Wednesday, Aug. 22 when they play host to future Conference USA foe Old Dominion at the ECU Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m. (ET).
The Pirates (0-1) are coming off a 2-1 overtime loss at Campbell in the season opener. Sophomore Lexi Miller netted ECU's lone goal scoring the equalizer in the 67th minute of play on a pass from senior Rachel Fuller, her first career assist. Senior Chrissy Gratz led four Pirates with multiple shots in the match posting a game-high six, two on goal. Miller along with seniors Hali Oughton and Rachel Wechsler also recorded a pair of strikes. Junior keeper Christiane Cordero stopped three of five shots on goal in 94 minutes of action in the season opening setback.
ODU will look to improve on its 1-0 mark after posting a 2-0 shutout against N.C. State last Friday. Ashlee Coutu and Taylor Mertz scored for the Monarchs, while keeper Brianna Alvarado posted her 11th career clean sheet recording five saves.
Wednesday's matchup will be the 15th between the two former Colonial Athletic Association members with ODU holding a slim 8-6 edge in the all-time series. The Pirates have won the last four meetings, two by way of shutouts, and have outscored the Monarchs 9-3 including a 4-1 victory a year ago in Norfolk, Va.
