ECU Women's Soccer Get First C-USA Win

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- ECU women's soccer gained their first conference USA win today, in a 3-2 game, against South Florida played at Bunting Field in Geenville, N.C.

The Pirates (overall 4-3-2, C-USA 1-1-1) and the Bulls (overall 3-5-0, C-USA 0-2-2) battled for a scoreless 30 minutes. At the 27 minute mark Sarah Stoltz sent a pass down the right side of the field to Meghan McCallion (7 goals, 4 assists) who took it inside the 18 and crossed the ball to the left corner of the net.

The second goal for ECU came only a minute later when Melissa Penney sent a goal to Amanda Duffy (4 goals, 3 assists) who chipped the ball over the Bull's goalie for a 2-0 Pirate lead. The third Pirate goal came off a pass from Ashely Stopa to Duffy who nailed a shot from inside the 18.

While the Pirates dominated the first half, the Bulls controlled the field in the second, outshooting the Pirates 18-10. South Florida got their first goal of the game off a pass from Kim Martins to Aleia Long who kicked it into the left corner of the goal at the 64 minute of the game.

The Bulls kept it close, 74:14 Tara Escribano scored off of a pass from Kristen Scottland. The Pirates prevailed, Lauren Church made 12 saves for ECU.

ECU head coach, Rob Donnenwirth, commented: "They(USF) just lost last night to Florida State 3-2. It was 3-0 at the half and we knew they were capable of coming back. They kept us on our toes."

ECU takes on UAB this Sunday, September 29, at Bunting Field at 12:30 p.m.
