GREENVILLE, N.C. – After splitting its first two league games at home last weekend, the East Carolina women’s soccer team will open its first Conference USA road trip of the season this Friday, Oct. 4, when it takes on Old Dominion at 5 p.m. ECU will meet UAB on Sunday, Oct. 6 for a 1:30 p.m., matchup.

Last weekend, the Pirates suffered a tough, 1-0 defeat at the hands of Colorado College on a 79th-minute tally. The squad rebounded just two days later with a 2-0 victory over Charlotte behind goals by redshirt juniors Skylar Poole and Lexi Miller. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Saundra Baron recorded her second shutout of the season in the win.

East Carolina Notes:
The Pirates have one of the younger starting lineups in the conference, as multiple freshmen have routinely been in the starting lineup. ECU started a season-high five newcomers Sept. 6 against UNC Wilmington.

Redshirt junior striker Lexi Miller was named to the Preseason All-Conference USA Players to Watch List prior to the start of the season.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Saundra Baron has been very territorial of the area surrounding the Pirate goal and has posted two shutouts this season. The Coastal Carolina transfer owns a 0.86 goals-against average through 11 games in 2013.

East Carolina has played in four double-overtime games this season and owns a 1-1-2 record in those contests. In double-overtime affairs, the Pirates are 1-0-1 at home.

Saundra Baron ranks second among all C-USA goalkeepers with 46 saves this on the year. Baron’s 0.86 goals-against average ranks in the top half of the league, ranking sixth among the league’s goalkeepers.

Freshman defender Caitlin Hite has played every minute in nine of the Pirates’ 11 matches during her first campaign. Included in that total are four double-overtime games.

-The Monarchs are winless on the season with a 0-8-1 record and dropped both C-USA games last weekend at Marshall and FIU.

-Old Dominion has scored just four goals on 70 shot attempts so far this season, while forward Jessie Klamut leads the team with 16 shots – five of which were on goal.

-ODU holds a 49-44 advantage over its opponents in corner-kick opportunities this season.

-The Blazers own an 8-3 overall record after splitting its first two C-USA matches last weekend against Middle Tennessee State and Marshall.

-Following UAB’s 1-0 victory over Marshall last Sunday, the team’s eight wins are its most since the 2012 season.

-The Blazers’ top scoring threat is striker Paige Hanks, who leads the team with 13 points on five goals and three assists. Hanks has taken 17 shots this season, 11 of which have been on goal.
